אִילָן   n.m.  tree


  tree  Com.  Dan4:7 : וַאֲלוּ אִילָן בְּגוֹא אַרְעָא  and there was a tree in the middle of the Earth.  Dan4:23 : לְמִשְׁבַּק עִקַּר שָׁרְשׁוֹהִי דִּי אִילָנָא  to leave the root-stem of the tree's roots.  4QEnastr d 1 I:4 : ושתוא הוה ועלי כל אילניא  it was winter, and the leaves of all the trees ....  TgJ Is7:2 : אִילָנֵי חוּרשָא  the trees of the forest.  TN Gen2:9 : אילן חייא  the Tree of Life.  PJ Gen3:3 : אילנא דבי מציעות גינוניתא.

  as a collective: trees  Nabatean, Jud, JLAtg, LJLA.  TgO Ex10:15 : וְלָא אִשתְאַר כֹל יָרוֹק בְאִילָנָא וֻבעִסבָא דְחַקלָא  there was no green thing left on the trees and the ground vegetation.  PJ Gen1:11 : ואילן פירי עביד פירי ליזניה דביזריה ביה  fruit trees producing fruit of their kind whose seeds are in it.

In the targums, this word can also be used in referring to a vine, inasmuch as Hebrew עץ is so polyvalent.
