בִּירָנָה   n.f.  citadel
  The late LJLA sg. form is a back-formation from the plural בִירָניָתָא‏, which is to be viewed as a literary plural form of byrh.


  fortified residential/governmental compound of a tel, citadel  JLAtg, LJLA.  TgJ Is13:22 : וִינַצְפוּן חָתוֹלִין בְבִירָניָתְהוֹן וְיָרוּרִין בְבֵית מִשרֵי תַפנוּקֵיהוֹן  cats will shriek in their citadels and jackals in their luxurious residences.  TgJ Amos1:10 : וַאֲשַלַח אִישָתָא בְשוּרֵי צוֹר וֻתשֵיצֵי בִירָניָתַהָא  I shall let fire loose against the walls of Tyre and it will destroy its residential compounds.  PJ Lev25:29 : בית מותבא בבירנין דמפקן שור  a residence in citadels surrounded by a wall.  TgEsth103:15 : בשושן בירנתא  [=MT בְּשׁוּשַׁן הַבִּירָה].
