דָּת   n.f./m.  law, edict


  law  BADan, BabMBK.  Dan2:15 : דָתָא מְהַחְצְפָה.  Dan6:9 : כְּדָת־מָדַי וּפָרַס  according to law of Media and Persia.  Dan7:25 : יִסְבַּר לְהַשְׁנָיָה זִמְנִין וְדָת  he hopes to alter times and law.  GenApoc 6.8 : באדין לבני נשין נסבת מן בנת אחי ובנתי לבני אח֗י֗ י֗ה֗בת כדת חוק עלמא  then I took wives for my sons from among my fraternal nieces and provided my fraternal nephews with my daughters in accordance with eternal law and ordinance†. in particular, religious law  BAEzra.  Ezra7:12 : עֶזְרָא כָהֲנָא סָפַר דָּתָא דִּי־אֱלָהּ שְׁמַיָּא  Ezra the priest, scribe of the law of the God of Heaven. edict  BADan, Qumran.  Dan2:13 : וְדָתָא נֶפְקַת וְחַכִּימַיָּא מִתְקַטְּלִין  the edict was promulgated and the sages were being killed. verdict  BADan, Syr, LJLA.  Dan2:9 : דִּי הֵן־חֶלְמָא לָא תְהוֹדְעֻנַּנִי חֲדָה־הִיא דָתְכוֹן  for if you do not tell me the dream, your verdict is one thing [all later similar usages are based on this passage].  TgEsth2 5:14(10) : דתא יתעביד ליה.
