A descriptive term for the Jesus' cross, apparently because of its association with Simon of Cyrene called the father of Alexander (Mark 15:21). Jastrow's suggestion (p. 65) to associate it with the mast of an Alexandrian merchantman vessel is forced. The form itself is surely erroneous for אלכסנדריא.
