This display reflects an early draft manuscript of Sokoloff's A Dictionary of Jewish Palestinian Aramaic, first edition. For additions and corrections in the second printed edition, please view our online text here. A third edition (2017) is now available, but it lacks the very valuable indexes of the earlier ones. They are available online, however (see the "CONTENTS" page of that edition).

Contrary to Dalman's opinion, the pl. form רבנין belongs to this entry and not to רבן . Note that this word is always used in the abs. and never with the det. ending or with a poss. pron. (cf. MH חכמים ). In spite of its common occurrence in the texts (e.g. Er 18d(38); RH 57b(27); BB 17c(32), the form רבנן must be regarded as a corruption due to TBA influence, since it is only explicable in that dialect in the mng. "our Rabbis" (cf. already No=ld, MG 178, n. 2; in JPA, the correct form would have been רבנינן *).
