The Comprehensive Aramaic Lexicon

Text Information

AmGen: = Amulets from Geniza mss. The fact that this material was found in the Cairo Geniza must not be taken a priori to demonstrate that the language is that of Palestinian Jewish Aramaic, even where the orthography is western. Magical formulae go back to much earlier times and undoubtedly have multiple and complex origins. Many such texts have been treated here as Late Jewish Literary Aramaic (dialect 83), especially those where there is a clear attempt to write in a JLA type of dialect.
