EphNis: Ephrem Nisibene Hymns from the edition of E. Beck, CSCO 218, 240, with substantial corrections by CAL staff from the digital edition prepared for the "Digital syriac Corpus" . Readers are advised that the current (2021), vocalized, versions of the Ephrem corpus on the "Digital Syriac Corpus", unless marked "edited," are replete with errors of vocalization on almost every line, and errors of transciption in many of the stanzas. Even the "edited" ones, such as this group, must be used with caution, especially as regards vocalization. Some are in quite good shape, others have multiple vocalization errors in almost every stanza and even occasional missing and/or misread consonants.
We have normally removed the vocalization provided by the "Corpus" because it is often so erroneous and divergent from Beck's translation. Students should compare it to that found on the "Corpus" to get an idea of the problems. Assigning students to find the errors there might prove to be a useful pedagogical tool.
