Zihrun Raza Kasia: D.C. 27: Zihrun Raza Kasia
1088 AH.
Circ. 1677 A.D
Prepared by M. Morgenstern from the text provided by Bogdan Burtea and proofread by Livnat Barkan within the framework of the ISF-funded project: The Lexical Analysis of Mandaic.
This work has been published Bogdan Burtea on the basis of DC 27 (Zihrun, Das verborgene Geheimnis: Eine mandaische priesterliche Rolle. Edition, Ubersetzung und Kommentierung der Handschrift DC 27 Zihrun Raza Kasia, Harrasowitz, 2008). The first 93 lines have been replaced by that appears to be a 19th century hand, but from line 94 onwards the manuscript preserves a much earlier exemplar which was copied by Zihrun br Iahia Mhatam br Adam in Shushtar in 1088 AH (=1677-8 CE). No other copies are known in western libraries. RRC contains two manuscripts of this work. One, RRC 2Y, was copied by Ram Zihrun br Sam Bihram br Iahia Iahia (!) Zihrun in Margab in 1276 AH = 1859-60 CE. The textual tradition leads back to the scribe of DC 27. A much later manuscript, RRC 2L, was copied by Sheikh Nejm in 1937 CE. As has been shown elsewhere, Zihrun Raza Kasia is a composite work, which incorporates a different version of part IV of the Alf Trisar Shuialia (running from DC 27:287 // ATSh II 103 to DC 27:504 // ATSh II 175). A comparative edition of this section, taking into account the textual evidence of ATSh, is in order.
