DMordecai: The Dream of Mordecai, verse 2, as per the critical edition of Cory A. Weiss prepared for a rabbinical thesis at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (New York), 1993. The text includes the Dream of Mordecai, the Prayer of Mordecai, and the Prayer of Esther, i.e., corresponding to parts of sections A and C of the Greek additions to Esther. It is clearly a medieval work and equally clearly a translation from medieval Hebrew, parts of which are also reflected in Josippon. The translator tries but often fails to reflect a literary Aramaic like that of normative LJLA, but otherwise shows little evidence of an original Aramaic context, at least in the available mss. Here we have used as our primary text that of ms. Paris 110 as reflected in Rabbi Weiss’ edition--with a few variants from elsewhere where the P text seems doubtful--although he chose the somewhat older but clearly inferior Valmadonna ms. as his base text. For other versions of some of these texts see the extended supplement to Targum Sheni: file 81015.
