The biblical text rendered literally at P 2K6:25 is ultimately paralleled by Akkadian zê summati (CAD S, p 380) "seed of the false carob", but it would appear that the botanical sense of the term was not recognized after the biblical period. After all, the literal sense makes for a much better image of famine!
