In Mandaic, the form simat is often used as a personal name, especially a maluaša name.
See note to symh #2.
For the JBA example given by DJBA see s.v. sˀmˀ "silver". He is only the latest of the scribes and lexicographers, ancient and modern, to confuse these two words. Our interpretation, although we suggest it no without some uncertainty, is now acknowledged but not accepted in DJBA2.
