§▶
The distribution of the forms in the Standard literary Aramaic tradition is as follows: The independent form is bēn, but bēnē (baynay) before plural pronominal suffixes. In PTA, LJLA, and the colloquial Babylonian dialects the back-formation ביני becomes the normal independent form, although there is a tendency in LJLA and JBA to use the older form before singulars as well as in the Hebraizing reduplication.
In Syriac only ܒܲܝܢܲܝ‏, and (as opposed to byt, bynt) it is used in our database in older texts almost always only when used in the byny ... l_ construction and in complementary distribution with byt when there are pronominal suffixes. In JLA the 1st. sg. pron. suffix form is בֵינַא .
